The Heart Sutra is probably the best known and one of the most important Buddhist text. It is frequently recited by monks and Buddhists.
It is called the “Heart Sutra” because it contains the core of the teaching of the Prajnaparamita.
What is the Prajnaparamita?
This is the shortest of a set of sutras (Buddhist texts) whose main theme is Perfection of Wisdom (also called Perfect Wisdom, Transcendent Knowledge, or Transcendent Wisdom)
According to the 14th Dalai Lama, the heart sutra recalls the 5 stages, ways or paths (marga) on which bodhisattvas progress towards spiritual awakening or "Nirvana."
