The bodhi tree (also called the awakening tree) is a sacred tree in Buddhism, since it would be the tree under which the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama would have attained enlightenment. This tree is actually the fig tree of pagodas (sacred fig tree), or pipal, and its seeds are used to make malas. The pipal seeds skate and take on a shiny appearance over time.
